TL;DR
Front-end fade stays on while the 2Y holds below 4.78% weekly; the strip is only right if core PCE runs at 2.83% (structural, months).
Duration is still a broken equity hedge, so my downside protection lives in options (positioning, days to weeks).
Equity and metals downside hedges are crowded in the high percentiles; if risk holds, those hedges bleed and squeeze (positioning, days to weeks).
Credit-stress watch stays live with IG and HY both at the wide end of their range under a green tape (positioning, days to weeks).
No index edge today: S&P confluence reads neutral after the sweep, and neutral is NOT bearish (positioning, days to weeks).
Where We Stand
Yesterday I said the front-end fade lives or dies on core PCE cooling to 2.86%, and that I ride the December-hike read while the 2Y holds below its weekly line. Today's close does not break that, but it tests it. The 2Y sits at 4.59%, well below the 4.78% invalidation, so the oldest thesis (structural, months), the one I opened five days ago on the December hike with front-end positioning intact, stays alive on the number that matters. What changed is the reason: the 2Y is lower because a Democratic sweep took fiscal expansion and oil off the table, with the data itself playing little part. I'm holding the read and watching whether the strip follows the 2Y down.
The copper and metals hedge-crowding flag from recent notes is still live. My duration-is-a-broken-hedge view (positioning, days to weeks) is reinforced by today.
