TL;DR
Front-end fade stays on while the 2Y holds below 4.78% weekly; it only breaks if core PCE cools to 2.81% (structural, months).
Today was a credit day inside an AI-funding unwind rather than a rates turn; I treat it as positioning until spreads crack through their range (positioning, days to weeks).
The bond hedge is broken with S&P-versus-bonds flipped negative, so my downside protection lives in options (positioning, days to weeks).
Equity and small-cap downside hedges are pinned at the 100th percentile into a VIX panic extreme; they bleed and squeeze if risk merely holds (positioning, days to weeks).
S&P confluence moved to 2 of 4 down, PARTIAL and a watch; that is NOT a defensive turn, which needs STACKED (positioning, days to weeks).
Where We Stand
Yesterday I said no index edge today, that S&P confluence read neutral after the sweep, and that neutral is NOT bearish (positioning, days to weeks). Today's close challenges the complacency in that read while leaving the logic intact: the S&P fell 4.36% and the Nasdaq 4.99%, and my S&P confluence has moved from neutral to 2 of 4 down. That is PARTIAL, a watch that falls short of STACKED, so I am flagging it rather than turning defensive on the book. My oldest open thesis, the HY credit stress watch from five days ago, is squarely in play now that credit did the damage today rather than duration. The crowded-hedges flag from yesterday is still live, and that is the tension: VIX just printed its panic extreme, so the squeeze risk cuts BOTH ways.
